Accomplished artist and notable eccentric, Brassius (also known as コルザ Colza in Japanese) is the grass-type gymleader of Artazon. His whimsical sculptures of Pokemon and passionate battling style are known regionwide, attracting many artistically-inclined tourists and trainers to Artazon’s streets.
Though he has a passionate love for the arts, his journey as an artist has been tumultuous; he describes his early days as filled with “many hardships” and he “even became deathly ill”, causing himself to fall into a terrible artblock for a long period. He obsessed over making his art as marketable and wildly appealing as possible to gain notoriety, but found everything he made to be shallow and soulless.
This all changed upon meeting Hassel. Brassius describes Hassel as his “mentor in life”, the person he could rely on during his slump and who helped him leave behind his petty desires for fame. Their relationship ultimately inspired Brassius’ most popular piece: Surrendering Sunflora.
Now, Brassius prioritizes creating the art that he wants to see in the world and honing his battling skills for prospective gym challengers. While he’s gone on record to say he could never be a teacher like Hassel, he does do his best to nurture the young trainers that challenge him and impart the lessons he’s learned unto others.
"My advice to you is simple. Be honest with yourself, and do whatever your heart desires....So long as you don't cause trouble, that is."
